We'll look at the very many different ways in which repetition is use in poetry both to define the verse line, or the poetic genre (stanza, villanelle et al) and to create rhetorical effects.

 

We need to take in repetition of sound,  of words, or grammatical patterning, of thematic motifs. 

 

 

We'll look at a range of poems from the Psalms to Shakespeare to Walt Whitman to Pete Seeger to Penelope Shuttle
